June 6 - July 1, 2016
Teaching ESL/EFL (English as a Second Language/English as a Foreign Language) has become a growing field as cultures and economies globalize. The ultimate goal of this course is for participants to be prepared for actual teaching situations and be confident as TESOL instructors/tutors. Acquiring a TESOL certificate can lead to teaching opportunities around the world. Applications for the 2016 summer program will be available the first week of December 2015.
This course aims to provide a solid foundation for "Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages" (TESOL) and will equip participants with tools for their own reflection and growth as teaching professionals. By participating in interactive workshops, writing lesson plans, teaching, tutoring and receiving feedback, each participant will gain experience, confidence, and awareness of the skills and teaching techniques required for successful English language teaching.
Hampshire College recommends the equivalent of 4 academic credits for the completion of this program. Students are strongly encouraged to check with their home institutions about accepted transfer credits. Upon completion of the program, students may request a Hampshire College transcript here.
Due to the intensive nature of the program, all participants are strongly recommended to reside on campus for the duration of the course. The program fee includes full residency, course materials, and fees.
