Merit Scholarships

Hampshire College awards a limited number of renewable scholarships, based on merit, to admission candidates demonstrating exceptional promise. Students applying to Hampshire do not need to submit any additional materials to be considered for a merit award; the admissions committee nominates qualified applicants to a scholarship committee that makes those decisions. Scholarship awards are included with offers of admission. Renewal of four-year scholarships is contingent upon maintaining satisfactory academic progress.

BELL RINGER SCHOLARSHIP
Hampshire's most prestigious merit scholarship is awarded to students who have demonstrated the highest degree of intellectual curiosity, complexity of thought, imagination, and community engagement; this scholarship recognizes students' potential for producing distinguished work at Hampshire. The Bell Ringer Scholarship is attributed to the Division Free Bell, which students triumphantly ring after passing their Division III projects. The value of the Bell Ringer Scholarship for first-year students is $16,000 per year, up to $64,000 for four years.

PRESIDENTIAL SCHOLARSHIP
From our first president, Franklin Patterson, to the newest, Jonathan Lash, Hampshire's presidents have kept the College on the cutting edge of educational pedagogy. President Patterson's vision to change the very nature of higher education resulted in the creation of Hampshire as a center for educational innovation. President Lash's vision to make Hampshire an environmentally sustainable community seeks to put Hampshire at the forefront of the green campus movement. In honor of the seven people who have served as president, the Presidental Scholarship is awarded to academically strong students who possess qualities of leadership and vision. For first-year students, the value of the Presidential Scholarship is $12,000 per year, up to $48,000 for four years.

NON SATIS SCIRE SCHOLARSHIP
Hampshire's motto, Non Satis Scire (to know is not enough), challenges our students to acquire a mastery of knowledge and process to do work in their field and to assume an active role in improving the world around them. This four-year scholarship is awarded on the basis of superior academic achievement and the capacity to pursue original work and activism. For first-year students, the value of the Non Satis Scire Scholarship is $10,000 per year, up to $40,000 for four years.

DEANS SCHOLARSHIP
A renewable scholarship to first-year students who demonstrate excellent academic achievement as well as the ability to learn through critique and collaboration. The value of the Deans Scholarship is $7,500 per year, up to $30,000 for four years.

STEM SCHOLARSHIP
Hampshire is able to offer a limited number of scholarships, sponsored by the National Science Foundation, to transfer students who wish to study STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) disciplines. The STEM Scholarship is aimed at students who are traditionally underrepresented in STEM fields, including women, students of color, and first-generation college students. The value of the Stem Scholarship is $10,000 per year.

ADDITIONAL SCHOLARSHIPS FOR TRANSFER STUDENTS
Beginning with students entering in fall 2013, Hampshire is pleased to offer renewable merit scholarships for transfer students. The maximum award is $10,000 per year.

NATIONAL MERIT SCHOLARSHIP
This four-year scholarship is awarded to National Merit finalists who attend Hampshire and are eligible for College-sponsored scholarships.

INNOVATOR'S SCHOLARSHIP
