Daily Incident Log

Below is a listing of all incidents, fires, accidents, and arrests reported to the Hampshire College Campus Police Department. Each listing includes the date and time of the report; a description of the incident, accident, or arrest that includes the location of the event and a case number. These are provided for the education of the community as well as to satisfy the requirements of the Federal Right to Know Law. Please feel free to call the Campus Police Department at x5424 (or 413.559.5424) if you have any questions about incidents occurring on campus.

 

The following events occurred between March 1 and April 30:

 

                                 Tuesday, April 22, 2014

Suspicious Person:

Officers responded to the Airport Lounge for a report of a suspicious person. Officer found individual who was transported to location off campus - 0409 (1401-494-OF).

Damage to College Property:
Officer on patrol was notified of graffiti on the wall outside the Dining Commons. Officer took pictures and made the report - 0603 (1401-496-OF).

Destruction/Damage/Vandalism:
Officer responded to the Library Lot for a report of a missing antenna from a vehicle. Officer took pictures and made the report - 1322 (1401-498-OF). The case is open.


                                 Monday, April 21, 2014

Medical Emergency:
Officers and EMTs responded to Merrill for an ill student. EMTs evaluated individual who went to CDH by taxi - 0058 (1401-487-OF).

Medical Emergency:
Officer responded to Prescott for an ill student. Individual will go to HCHS this morning - 0615 (1401-489-OF).

Medical Emergency:

Officers and EMTs responded to Merrill for an ill student. EMTs evaluated individual who declined further treatment - 1921 (1401-492-OF).

Maintenance Problem:

Officer and AFD responded to Enfield for a report of the smell of gas, fire alarm set off. Officer and AFD did not fine the smell of propane, alarm reset - 2246 (1401-493-OF).

College Policy Violation:

Officers responded to the Dining Commons for a report of individual refusing to leave the building. Officers spoke with individuals involved; the individual was escorted out of the building and advised not to return for the rest of the evening - 0015 (1401-476-OF).

College Policy Violation:
Officers on patrol in Greenwich noticed two propane cylinders sitting on a deck less than three feet from the doorway and window. Officers confiscated the tanks, which were tagged for evidence. A Dean's Referral was generated - 0804 (1401-479-OF).

Medical Emergency - Intoxicated:
Officer and AFD responded to Greenwich area for a report of an intoxicated person in the woods. Individual was located and AFD transported to CDH. Dean on Call notified, Dean's Referral was generated - 1212 (1401-481-OF).

Medical Emergency:
Officer and EMTs responded to Greenwich for an injured student. EMTs evaluated individual and gave an ice pack and sling for arm. Individual refused transport - 1331 (1401-482-OF).

College Policy Violation:
Officers on patrol observed a keg on a Greenwich porch. Officer spoke with student who said they found the keg in the woods. Officer confiscated the keg, generated a Dean's Referral - 1758 (1401-483-OF).

Indecent A& on Person 14 or Over:

Officers responded to Merrill for a reported knife fight where the individuals had left the scene. Officers made contact with students took the report, contacted house staff - 0054 (1401-469-OF). The case is open.

Larceny over $250:
Officer responded to Merrill for a report of a stolen laptop. Officer took the report - 0634 (1401-470-OF). The case is open.

College Policy Violation:
Officers on foot patrol of Greenwich observed a group of individuals in the woods carrying a keg. Officers spoke with individuals, confiscated the keg which was put in property - 1702 (1401-472-OF).

College Policy Violation:
Officers on patrol in the Greenwich Parking Lot observed students heading towards the wooded area. Individuals ran away upon seeing the officers. Officer went into the woods and found individuals with a keg. Officers spoke with individuals, confiscated the keg. Officers found mud smeared on cruiser when leaving the area - 1807 (1401-473-OF).

Annoying Behavior:
Officers in the Kerminsky Parking Lot observed a vehicle driving under the speed limit while the occupants waved and yelled. The vehicle repeated the behavior while heading in the opposite direction. Officer stopped vehicle on Prince's Way and spoke with individuals. A Dean's Referral was generated - 1916 (1401-474-OF).

College Policy Violation:
Officers on foot patrol in the area of the outdoor tennis courts found a vehicle in the woods with a blanket covered keg in plain view. Officers identified the owner of vehicle, made a Dean's Referral - 1307 (1401-480-OF).

Vandalize Property:

Officer found new graffiti in the Dining Commons bathroom. Officer took pictures, made a report and requested a work order to have the graffiti removed - 1144 (1401-465-OF). The case is open.

Medical Emergency:
Officers and EMTs responded to the Library Lawn for two injured students. EMTs assisted individuals. One student is going to HCHS with a friend - 1539 (1401-466-OF).

Medical Emergency:

Officers and EMTs responded to Merrill for an ill student. EMTs evaluated individual. Officer transported student to HCHS - 1203 (1401-447-OF).

Destruction/Damage/Vandalize:

Officer responded to Lemelson Road for a report of a vandalized motor vehicle. Officer took pictures and the report - 1533 (1401-450-OF). The case is open.

Harassment, Criminal:
Officer responded to the Campus Police Office in the Johnson Library for a student reporting harassment. Officer took the report - 1536 (1401-451-OF). The case is open.

Officers, EMTs and AFD responded to Blair hall for a report of an injured student. EMTs assisted individual, AFD transported to CDH - 1710 (1401-442-OF).

Officers and EMTs responded to Dakin for an injured student. EMTs evaluated individual who will go to UMI via bus - 1023 (1401-439-OF).

Vandalize Property:

Officer responded to FPH  for a report of graffiti in a bathroom. Officer took pictures and the report - 0724 (1401-431-OF). The case is open.

Medical Emergency:
Officer on patrol in the RCC and EMTs responded to an ill individual. EMTs assisted individual who refused transport - 1048 (1401-432-OF).

Medical Emergency:

Officer on patrol in the RCC and EMTs responded to an ill individual. EMTs evaluated individual who refused transport - 1132 (1401-433-OF).

Medical Emergency:

Officers, EMTs and AFD responded to Enfield for reported overdose. EMTs assisted individual. Officers requested On Call Staff notification. AFD transported to CDH - 0036 (1401-421-OF).

Threat to Commit Crime:

Officer responded to Merrill for a report of a threatening phone call. Officer took the report, contacted the phone company and gave the number to the student - 2309 (1401-426-OF). The case is open.

Officer and EMTs responded to Merrill for a reported injury. EMTs assisted individual who will go to HCHS - 1240 (1401-416-OF).

Medical Emergency:
Officers and EMTs responded to Enfield for an injured student. EMTs assisted student who signed a refusal of care form - 2045 (1401-420-OF).

Mental Health Issue:

Officers responded to Merrill for a student in distress. Officers requested On Call Staff. AFD responded to transport individual to CDH - 0212 (1401-406-OF).

Motor Vehicle Accident:
Officer responded to the Greenwich for a reported motor vehicle damaged while parked. Officer took the report and pictures - 1156 (1401-15-AC).

Vandalism:
Officer responded to the Johnson Library for a report of graffiti in a restroom. Officer took the report and pictures - 1649 (1401-409-OF).

Safety Hazard:
Officer on patrol checking building found a door taped open. Officer took pictures, removed the items from door and locked building - 1754 (1401-410-OF).

Medical Emergency:

Officers and EMTs responded to the Robert Crown Center for a reported injury. EMTs assisted individual who signed a refusal of care form - 2040 (1401-412-OF).

Medical Emergency:

Officers and EMTs responded to the Multisports Center for an ankle injury. EMTs evaluated individual who went to UMI with a friend - 1250 (1401-399-OF).

Fire Alarm:
Officers and AFD responded to Merrill Masters for a reported fire alarm. The cause of the alarm was cooking smoke. The panel was reset. A Dean's referral was submitted - 1939 (1401-404-OF).

Officers and AFD responded to Prescott for a reported fire alarm. The cause of the alarm was cooking smoke. The panel was reset - 1742 (1401-394-OF).

Well-Being Check:

Officers responded to Enfield for a well-being check on a student. Individual was not in mod. Officer located student on campus, contacted On Call staff - 1856 (1401-398-OF).

Medical Emergency:
Officers and EMTs responded to Greenwich for a student with a prior injury. EMTs assisted individual and advised student seek further medical assistance at HCHS the next day - 1843 (1401-391-OF).

Building, Vandalize:
Officers responding to another incident observed a door being held open in Greenwich. After clearing the first call officers responded to Greenwich. The door was open without the alarm sounding. Students had removed the magnet. Magnet was replaced. Officers spoke with the students - 1902 (1401-392-OF).

Gas Leak:

Officers responded to Enfield for a report of a gas odor. Officer found gas odor and ventilated room contacted Facilities for HVAC assistance. Source of the odor is unknown. Student will contact Facilities if smell continues - 1401-400-OF.

Motor Vehicle Accident:

Officer on patrol at the front houses was approached by individual who reported having an accident. Officer took the report and took pictures of the damage - 2250 (1401-14-AC).

College Policy Violation:

Officers assisting with fire drills in Greenwich were notified of a room with a covered smoke detector. Officers took pictures and removed the covering - 0910 (1401-379-OF).

Disorderly Conduct:
Officers and AFD responded to the Bus Circle for an individual on a PVTA bus being disruptive. Officers assisted AFD with arrest. Officer took statements from witnesses - 0946 (1401-380-OF).

All Other Larceny:
Officer responded to the Music and Dance building for a report of missing keys. Officer took the report - 1222 (1401-381-OF). The case is open.

Fire Alarm:

Officers and AFD responded to Prescott for a reported fire alarm. The cause of the alarm was cooking smoke. The panel was reset - 2033 (1401-383-OP).

Suspicious Activity:
Officers on patrol at the Tobacco Barn found two vehicles behind the Tobacco Barn. Officers spoke with the drivers, stuck vehicle was towed away - 2226 (1401-384-OF).

Fire Alarm:

Officers and AFD responded to Enfield for a reported fire alarm. The cause of the alarm was a malfunctioning smoke detector. Electrician notified of the smoke detector - 0345 (1401-369-OF).

College Policy Violation:
Officers assisting with fire alarms in Prescott were notified of drug paraphernalia in a room. Officers took pictures, confiscated items which were logged into property and completed a Dean's Referral - 0919 (1401-370-OF).

College Policy Violation:

Officers assisting with fire alarms in Prescott were notified of room with a covered smoke detector. Officers took pictures and removed the sheet from the ceiling - 0921 (1401-372-OF).

Disturbance:
Officers responded to the Multisports for a report of a disturbance. Officers spoke with the individuals asked one leave the scene to diffuse the situation - 1117 (1401-373-OF).

Trespass Notice Issued:
Officers responded to the Dining Commons for a personnel issue. Officers issued a trespass notice to individual - 1309 (1401-374-OF).

Medical Emergency:
Officers and AFD responded to the Red Barn for an injured student. AFD provided medical care, individual declined transport for further medical assistance - 1717 (1401-376-OF).

Medical Emergency:
Officers and EMTs responded to Merrill for an injured student. EMTs assisted individual who went to CDH with a friend. A Dean's Referral was generated - 2052 (1401-377-OF).

                                 Tuesday--April 1, 2014

College Policy violation:

Officers assisting with fire drills in Enfield were notified of a room with a covered smoke detector. Officers took pictures and uncovered detector, completed a Dean's Referral - 0902 (1401-362-OF).

Larceny over $250:
Officer met with student at the Campus Police Office in the Johnson Library took a report of a stolen bike. The bicycle was unlocked outside the Robert Crown Center. Officer took the report - 1201 (1401-363-OF). The case is open.

Fire - Actual:
Officers responded to the entrance of FPH for a report of a trash bin on fire. The fire was put out by student using fire extinguisher before officer arrived. Officer made sure fire was completely out, took pictures and requested a custodian for cleanup - 1845 (1401-367-OF).

Fire Alarm:
Officers and AFD responded to Greenwich for a reported fire alarm. The cause of the alarm was cooking smoke. The panel was reset - 2146 (1401-368-OF).
