Peter Clark and Pete Ward on Cliffside Ecology and the Future of Climbing
Sponsored by the Climbers Coalition
Monday, December 9
FPH East Lecture Hall
Peter Clark and Pete Ward, both Hampshire alums, are coming to Hampshire College to speak about Cliffside Ecology and the Future of Climbing.
Peter Clark founded the Hampshire College Climbers Coalition during his time at Hampshire and managed to get funding to replace bolts at Farley Ledges after a rouge bolt-chopper vandalized several cliffs in the area. He has developed many sport routes and boulders in Western Mass and maintains an important presence in the community. Peter will discuss his graduate work in Cliffside Ecology.
Pete Ward was responsible for designing and building the bouldering cave on the second floor of the RCC. Pete's company, NE2C Productions has "identified the potential for competition as a bridge between rock climbing’s past and it’s future, between it’s conservationist roots and it’s urban aspirations." In his talk, Pete will discuss his professional journey, where he believes the future of climbing is headed and how Hampshire set him on that path.
