Karla Zarate-Ramirez 92F P16

Karla has worked in the nonprofit sector for over 18 years and is currently an executive director of development at the University of Hawaii Foundation, where she works closely with the College of Engineering and the College of Natural Sciences.  She formerly served as the campaign director at the American Friends Service Committee, an international peace and social justice organization based on Quaker principles. During her time at AFSC, Karla led a team of development professionals in a forty million dollar fundraising effort that will celebrate AFSC’s 100th anniversary in 2017.

Hampshire holds many special memories for Karla: It’s where she met her husband, Kevin Ramirez 92F, and closest friends. After Hampshire, Karla obtained a master's degree in organizational dynamics from the University of Pennsylvania and received her certified fundraising credential from CFRE International. She and Kevin have three children, one of whom is in her second year at Hampshire College. Karla also keeps busy by indulging her passion for cooking as well as her enthusiasm for running and the spin classes she teaches.
