  • — A recent District Court ruling on the Biden-Harris administration student debt relief program has blocked it moving forward. President Biden remains committed to providing loan relief for millions of student loan borrowers.  In August, Biden announced a plan to reduce student loan debt up to $20,000 for Pell Grant recipients and up to $10,000 in relief for borrowers who were not eligible for a Pell Grant.  For updated information about President Biden's debt relief initiative and how the Court ruling may change things, visit studentaid.gov.  Be aware of scams—the U.S. Department of Education will not ask for money to cancel your loans.

    — The new fixed interest rates for Direct loans have been announced: 4.99% for student loans; 7.54% for Parent PLUS loans. These rates are effective for loans borrowed for the fall 2022 and spring 2023 terms.

    — Effective May 18, 2022, the U.S. Department of Education has waived the federal verification process for students selected for the Standard verification process for the 2022-23 year.  This is temporary and the verification process is expected to resume for the 2023-24 year.
