Q. What is an apostille?
A. An apostille is a form of authentication issued by the Secretary of the Commonwealth that verifies the authenticity of a document. You may request to have your official transcript or a copy of your diploma certified with an apostille.
Q. How do I know if I need an apostille?
A. A document that has been certified with an apostille is accepted for legal use in all nations that are members of the Hague Convention. If you need to use your transcript or diploma in any of these countries, then you may need an apostille certification.
Q. How much does it cost?
A. There is a $25.00 (US) processing fee for each copy of a document requiring an apostille certification. For example, if you need your transcript and a copy of your diploma certified with an apostille, please send a $50.00 check. Please make checks or money orders payable to the Trustees of Hampshire College. Unfortunately, we are not able to accept online payments at this time.

Q. How do I request an apostille certification of my diploma?
A. Original diplomas must be mailed or brought to central records for copying and certifying. Along with your diploma, please include the following:

Q. What if I don't have my original diploma?
A. If you do not have your original diploma, you can contact the office of the dean of faculty and they may be able to issue you a replacement diploma. It will take six to eight weeks to process your replacement diploma request. Central records is not able to begin the apostille certification process until receipt of the replacement diploma.
Q. How long is the apostille certification process?
A. Keep in mind this is a lengthy process. Preparing and notarizing your transcripts and/or diploma can take up to five business days. The apostille process can then take up to three weeks once the documents are forwarded to Boston to be certified and returned to central records. At the end of this process, we will send your apostille certified documents to the address you provided via the United States Postal Service. If you would like quicker delivery, you can give us a credit card number to pay for delivery by the UPS.
