Minutes of Benefits Advisory Committee (BAC): March 1, 2012

Attending: Amy Diehl, Heather St. Germaine, Yaniris Fernandez, Nancy Booth, Shelly Ruocco (ex officio) and in a consulting role, David Hoffmann (Strategic Benefits Advisors - SBA)

I. Introduction of Nancy Booth, new Payroll and Benefits Manager. Nancy spoke briefly of her many years of payroll experience and substantial benefits experience. BAC members discussed their positions on campus.

II. Review of Minutes: January Minutes were approved.

III. Early Learning Center - the BAC has learned the Parents Advisory Committee of the Early Learning Center met with ELC administration and staff and will continue to have discussions with the ELC. The BAC is not involved in these discussions but encourages anyone with ELC concerns to reach out to Casie or Debbie Kallman.

IV. Staff Early Retirement Incentive - As Jerry was on vacation for this meeting, we are deferring this topic until his return.

V. Faculty FMLA. Yaniris, Lise and Shelly have visited three Schools and will see two more in mid-March. The main concern faculty have expressed so far in School meetings is that expectations for faculty while on parental leave need to be clear. There was some discussion in the School meetings asking if faculty on FMLA could go part-time for two years. So far we are considering this outside of FMLA and would be part of a separate negotiation within the Dean of Faculty division.

VI. Employee Benefit Survey - BAC members worked to revise a draft survey that would go to benefit-eligible employees before Spring Break. Shelly will take care of final edits, posting and notification.

VII. Health Care bidding. David will look at our loss ratio and discuss it at our March meeting. That information will help us know if we need to bid it out or not. Trend is about 6-7% this year. We need to know how we measure up to trend.

Upcoming meetings:
