Hampshire College Offers Scholarship to Attend Vermont Law School

Scholarship recipient Catherine Craig 08F attended VLS for a master’s in environmental law and policy while earning her JD at Northeastern. She is now a clerk to the legislative council in the Vermont State House, where she’s writing environmental laws for the state.

“I’m here because of the scholarship; I wouldn’t have been able to afford a master’s and a JD at the same time,” she says. “It feels like another way the Hampshire experience is supporting me in my professional life.”

The scholarship possibilities are:

  • A full one-year  scholarship for the Master of Environmental Law and Policy program, the Master of Farm and Agriculture Law and Policy program, or the Masters of Energy Regulation and Law program.
  • A full three-year scholarship for the Juris Doctor program or Joint JD/master’s degree. The master’s can be in VLS’s Environmental Law and Policy, Energy Regulation and Law, or Farm and Agriculture Law and Policy.

Another awardee, Achyut Shrestha 08F, received a job offer before graduating from VLS, and now works for the North Carolina Clean Energy Technology Center as an energy policy analyst.

“Hampshire and VLS are very similar,” he says. “The students are self-motivated, and strong advocates of environmental and social justice. The program at VLS is reading- and writing intensive, and demands a high level of critical thinking. The education at Hampshire is a perfect step toward going to VLS.”

Shrestha adds, “A master’s in law and policy opens up a lot of opportunities to create substantial change in the system.”
