She has been based in the Boston area since fleeing Florida 50 years ago.

Julie obtained a degree in bacterial genetics and began her career in science writing. Subsequently, she has worked for many nonprofits. Her focus is now on issues of fairness and social change.

She has served on the Board of a range of organizations, including Massachusetts NARAL, Provincetown Center for Coastal Studies, Peaked Hill Trust, and the Center for Defense Information. She is a trustee with SHIFT Foundation, which promotes common good and common wealth.
