Summer Housing

Summer Intersession Housing for Students

Summer intersession housing is limited to Hampshire College students continuing from spring 2024 to fall 2024 sponsored by a Hampshire College department for one of the following reasons:

  • Employed by a Hampshire College department
  • Assisting with a special academic project or research sponsored by a faculty or staff member on campus
  • An international student (sponsored by International Student Services)

Students not meeting the above criteria are not permitted to live in summer housing; alumni and students graduating prior to fall 2024 are also ineligible.

For those eligible, in the spring, your sponsor must email housing@hampshire.edu indicating their sponsorship of your summer stay. Sponsors are not required to sponsor the cost of your summer housing as this is your responsibility. The cost of summer housing is $150 per week. There are no partial week charges. Students staying the entire summer are charged $1,950.

Summer housing will likely be in Greenwich (mods, or apartment-style housing). These are unfurnished in common areas, and they are without air-conditioning; personal fans are encouraged. Students approved to live on campus over the summer will be assigned a mod with other students. Double rooms will likely be needed to be used as a double due to limited space. There is no available laundry room available in Greenwich; summer students will need to use the nearby Enfield laundry room.

After your sponsor communicates with Residence Life, you will be emailed the summer intersession housing form. Communicate when submitting your form your general housing preferences and any important information we should know (ex. approved housing accommodations, currently approved animals, etc.) before we finalize your housing assignment with modmates. There is no guarantee you will be granted all your preferences outside of a currently approved housing accommodation, and staff will make best efforts to assign you in a comfortable living space.

Students not staying the entire summer may only have their belongings in residence for the time period they are present and paying for; all belongings must be cleared, and the key must be returned when the student is not renting summer space. There is no available on-campus summer storage, including inside any residence.

Campus dining services are typically unavailable over the summer. All other campus services are either limited or unavailable. For example, Hampshire College's health and counseling services staff are unavailable. There are no resident advisors or planned student activities. Students will need to reach out in advance to residence life if they have needs or questions.

All college policies are in effect over the summer intersession. Students must adhere to the College's student handbook and other behavioral rules. Residents are responsible for observing all college regulations and directives issued through residence life staff, campus safety and wellbeing staff, and other college staff. All housing-related policies are in effect during the summer. Students who violate a college policy may be evicted from summer housing. Regular overnight guests are not permitted in residence during the summer housing period unless agreed upon by all modmates; if so, summer housing residents will be allowed one guest per week who may stay for no more than two days and nights. Guests must be properly registered.
