The Writing Program
Writing Program
The Writing Program, housed in the Writing Center, provides support for all writers at Hampshire of any ability, at any stage of the writing process, and with any writing assignment. Read on for details about our offerings, how to schedule a writing consultation, Writing Help @ Night, and more—and check out our Moodle resources page (login required) for a wide selection of helpful writing resources.
Who We Are
The Writing Program is staffed by faculty associates Alex Cuellar and Faune Albert. We work with students on course papers; Division II and Division III projects; internship, grad school, and job applications; and a range of other writing projects. We view writing as a process and believe that all writers, regardless of proficiency or field of study, benefit from feedback and community support, whether it be with:
- generating writing topics,
- getting started,
- reorganization,
- drafting,
- revision, or
- editing.
What We Do
Individual counseling sessions and advising
To schedule an appointment, please email Alex Cuellar or Faune Albert.
Programming
We offer programming in writing and writing-related areas for students, faculty, and staff, including formal and informal writing workshops. Feel free to contact us if you have suggestions for programming you'd like to see us offer.
Our classes help students learn the fundamentals of college writing; experiment with different genres of writing, both critical and creative; expand critical thinking and reflection skills; and develop their own voices.
We work closely with these integral programs on campus to provide support and mentorship to their students through designated courses, workshops, and professional development opportunities.
About the Writing Center
The Writing Center is a quiet, comfortable, and welcoming space on the edge of campus located between Emily Dickinson Hall and the Greenwich mods. The building houses communal writing spaces as well as more private writing areas and is a supportive space for ALL students to come and write. The building is generally open Tuesdays through Fridays from 10:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. with some exceptions, and during Writing Help @ Night hours, though we recommend making an appointment ahead of time for writing consultations.
Writing Help @ Night
Writing Help @ Night, supervised by our Alumni Fellows, offers help at any stage of the writing process from experienced alums and Div II and III writing tutors. The program is located on the first floor of the Writing Center (second door on the left). Students can drop in during open hours or schedule an appointment (recommended) by booking online or emailing writinghelp@hampshire.edu.
