What if a student needs medical or mental health care when the on-campus clinic is closed?

Mental Health Concerns on Weekends and Evenings: Call health and counseling services at 413.559.5458, option 1. The phone will be answered by a licensed mental health counselor who will ask how they can help you. If you are a Hampshire College student, the counselor will help you with your immediate situation and help you get connected to resources that will support you in the long term. If you are a Hampshire College staff, family, friend, or faculty member with concerns about a Hampshire student, the counselor will consult with you about your concern, speak with the student if the student is available, and let you know what the next steps should be to help.

Hampshire Student EMTs respond quickly to assess any on campus injuries or medical concern. Call (413) 559-5555. Campus Police will also respond to all EMT calls.
University of Massachusetts Health Services Nursing Telephone Advice: Call 413.577.5000 or call 413.559.5458 and choose option #2. A registered nurse will help you with medical advice and/or how to get medical care for your concern.

Walk-in Care at the Univeisty of Massachusetts Student Health, 150 Infirmary Way, Amherst. M-F, 5-8 p.m. and 11 a.m-5 p.m. on weekends: 413.577.5000. Use the “Text In Waiting Room” to reduce waiting time. Text “clinic” to 413.944.8562. You’ll receive a response text and a reminder text when it's almost your turn to be seen. Hampshire students have full access to this clinic; medical staff at Hampshire will follow up with you the next business day as needed. University of Massachusetts doctors cover for Hampshire students when your health center is closed and have full access to your electronic records and health history.

Transportation for Medical Care at an Off Campus Location: Students who need non-emergency transportation to or from a medical facility should call the Hampshire College dispatch at 413.559.5424. Dispatch has a list of local taxi companies for non-emergency medical transportation. The taxi fee will be added to your Hampshire College student account. Bring along your Hampshire student ID for verification. In an emergency, call 413.559.5555 for ambulance.
