What to Do When Health and Counseling Services Is Closed

Health and counseling services is open Monday-Friday, 8:30 a.m-5 p.m. We are closed for lunch from 12-1 p.m. Call 413.559.5458 for medical or mental health questions, advice, and appointments.

Emergency!? Call 413.559.5424 for Hampshire College Campus Security or 911 for Ambulance.

The Amherst Fire Department ambulance will respond. Transport is usually to: Cooley Dickinson Hospital Emergency Department, 30 Locust St, Northampton, 413.582.2000.

Sexual Assault 24-Hour Crisis Hotline: 413.545.0800

Mental Health Concerns (non-emergency)

Call Health and Counseling Services at 413.559.5458 and choose option 1. The phone will be answered by a licensed mental health counselor who will ask how the counselor can help you. If you are a Hampshire College student, the counselor will help you with your immediate situation and help you get connected to resources that will support you in the long term. If you are a Hampshire College staff, family, friend, or faculty member with concerns about a Hampshire student, the counselor will consult with you about your concern, speak with the student if the student is available, and let you know what the next steps should be to help.

Medical Care (non-emergency) 

  • Nursing Telephone Advice 24 hours at the UMass Health Center: Call 413.577.5000 or call 413.559.5458 and choose option 2. A registered nurse will help you with medical advice and/or how to get medical care for your concern.
  • 24-Hour Nurse Care Line for Blue Cross Blue Shield Student Health Insurance: 888.247.BLUE (2583)
  • Walk-in Care at UMass Student Health: 150 Infirmary Way, Amherst. Open M-F, 5-8 p.m. and 11 a.m-5 p.m. on weekends. 413.577.5000.
    • The “Text In Waiting Room” may reduce waiting time. Text “clinic” to 413.944.8562. You’ll receive a response text and a reminder text when it's almost your turn to be seen.
    • Hampshire students have full access to the University of Massachusetts Health Center whenever HCHS is closed, and the medical staff and nursing staff have full access to your medical records for continuity of care on weekends and evenings.
  • AEIOU Urgent Care: 170 University Drive, Amherst. Open M-F, 8 a.m.-8 p.m. and weekends, 11 a.m.-5 p.m. 413.461.3530.
  • Cooley Dickinson Urgent Care: 30 Locust St, Northampton, MA. Open M-F 12-8 p.m. and weekends 9 a.m-5 p.m. 413.582.2330
  • MedExpress Urgent Care: 424 Russell St., Amherst, MA. Open every day 8 a.m-8p.m., no appointment needed. 413.253.0483

Transportation for Medical Care at an Off-Campus Location: Students who need non-emergency transportation to or from a medical facility should call the Hampshire College Campus Security at 413.559.5424. They help arrange local taxi companies for non-emergency medical transportation. The taxi fee will be added to your Hampshire College student account. Bring along your Hampshire student ID for verification. In a medical or mental health emergency, call 413.559.5424 or 911 for ambulance.
