What to Do When Health and Counseling Services Is Closed

Health and Counseling Services is open M-F, 8:30 a.m.-5:00 p.m. when school is in session. Call 413.559.5458 for advice and appointments.

For After Hours Mental Health Concerns on Weekends and Evenings (for students, when school is in session):

Call Health and Counseling Services at 413.559.5458, option 1. The phone will be answered by a licensed mental health counselor who will ask how you need to be helped.

  • If you are a Hampshire College student, the counselor will help you with your immediate situation and help you get connected to resources that will support you in the long term.
  • If you are Hampshire College staff, family, friend, or faculty member with concern about a Hampshire student, the counselor will consult with you about your concern, speak with the student if the student is available, and let you know what the next steps should be to help.

For After Hours Medical Care on Weekends and Evenings:

Hampshire student EMTs respond quickly to assess any on campus injuries or medical concern. Call 413.559.5555. Campus police will also respond to all EMT calls.  

After Hours Medical Telephone Advice: Call 413.577.5000. A trained registered nurse will assess your medical issue and either help you with advice or direct you to further care.

Walk-in Care at the University of Massachusetts Amherst, 150 Infirmary Way, Amherst. Open evenings and weekends, usually 5-8 p.m. on weekdays and 11 a.m.-5 p.m. on weekends. 413.577.5000. The University of Massachusetts uses a “Text In Waiting Room,” and you won’t have to wait as long if you “text ahead.” Text “clinic” to 413.944.8562. You’ll receive a response text with your number and a reminder text when it's almost your turn to be seen. Hampshire students will not receive additional charges for care at the University of Massachusetts clinic when Hampshire health services is closed.

AEIOU Urgent Care 170 University Drive, Amherst, opens M-F until 8 p.m. and weekends until 5 p.m., 413.461.3530.

CVS Minute Clinic 1.866.389.ASAP (2727), 165 University Drive, Amherst, MA, open until 7 p.m. M-F, and 10:00 a.m.-5:30 p.m. on weekends.

Baystate Urgent Care 325 King Street, Northampton, MA 01060, 413.387.4100,OFFICE HOURS: Monday-Friday (including holidays): 10 a.m.-8 p.m.,Saturday and Sunday (including holidays): 9 a.m.-5 p.m.

Transportation for Medical Care at an Off Campus Location:

Students who need non-emergency transportation to or from a medical facility should call the Hampshire College dispatch at 413.559.5424. Dispatch has a list of local taxi companies for non-emergency medical transportation. The taxi fee will be added to your Hampshire College student account. Bring along your Hampshire student ID for verification. In an emergency, call 413.559.5555 for an ambulance.
