Hampshire Team Bikes for Food Bank

Associate Professor of Computer Science Jaime Dávila, as part of a team of Hampshire College community members, is riding his bike to raise money for the Food Bank of Western Massachusetts.

Associate Dean of Students for Campus Leadership/Activities Pam Tinto assembled the team, dubbed “Tour de Hamp.”

The team is part of the Food Bank’s Will Bike 4 Food (WB4F) cycling event. Now in its fourth year, WB4F has brought together hundreds of dedicated individuals, businesses and teams who have raised more than $135,000.

“There are some basic things that every human being should have access to. Food and shelter are two of those. With this fund raiser, the Food Bank of Western Massachusetts gives me the opportunity to work towards providing one of those locally, right in the community that I live and work in,” Dávila says. “It’s also great to be able to do this as part of a Hampshire College team, the place that I work, and a place with a commitment to social engagement and changing the world for the better.”

“As I ride on Sunday, I'll definitely be thinking about the people I'm trying to help, and I will also keep in mind the people who took the time and some of their resources to sponsor me. It'll be a privilege to work on their behalf,” Dávila says.
