Physarum Mold

Physarum Polycephalum, Visiting Non-Human Scholar, began teaching at Hampshire in the Spring of 2017.

The first non-human scholar-in-residence, Physarum Polycephalum, arrived from Carolina Biological Supply in 2017, and moved into a dedicated office in the Cole Science Center.

Physarum Polycephalum, a plasmodial slime mold, researches important problems from a non-human perspective, and enhances intellectual life on campus by helping students and colleagues to think about the world without human biases.
