On December 3, alums, parents, friends, faculty, staff, and students gathered in the Red Barn to launch Change in the Making: A Campaign for Hampshire. It was a perfect Hampshire scene – snow outside, the barn warm with lights, and five decades of people who love this place sharing stories and celebrating community.
As we look ahead to our 50th anniversary, we have a lot to celebrate and a lot of work to do.
To keep Hampshire independent and sustainable, we need to raise $60 million by 2024. The community has already stepped up to get us $11.2 million of the way there. Now, in the coming weeks we’ll be asking you to make a commitment to the campaign over the next five years. We’re kick-starting this effort with the goal of securing an additional $3 million toward the campaign by the end of the year.
It’s right there in The Making of a College: “Hampshire College will seek to be an agent of change.” Change is what we do. It’s what we prepare our students for and it’s what we seek in the world.
One of our Campaign co-chairs, Ken Burns 71F, told us that “Hampshire is transformational.” This is a remarkable institution and a remarkable community.
And it needs all of us to ensure its success.
