Minutes of Benefits Advisory Committee (BAC): Thursday, October 31, 2012

Attending: Amy Diehl, Heather St. Germaine, Yaniris Fernandez, Nancy Booth, Steve Roof and Shelly Ruocco (ex officio) and David Hoffman (conferenced in from SBA)

I. Minutes from Thursday, September 13, 2012, approved.

II. The benefit survey highlighted a wellness component and the need for some new equipment. Bob Garmirian from the RCC/Multi-Sport areas provided an overview of both locations and what they provide to students, faculty and staff members. The main area discussed was surrounding the aging fitness equipment and the ability to maintain the equipment in the future.

III. David provided an overview of proposed changes under the Federal Health Care Reform Act for years 2012 and beyond. Some major highlights are:

a. W2 reporting of health care premiums beginning this year
b. New requirements from health care providers to provide an easy to read benefit summary
c. Women's' preventive health coverage

IV. New Dental Plan. The BAC unanimously voted to move from Altus to Delta Dental. The Delta rates are lower for participants and will provide additional benefits. A two year contract was negotiated.
Action: David to prepare additional market data that compares plans and cost sharing information for the next meeting.

V. Benefit Survey - Nancy reviewed with the BAC some of the wellness comments from staff and faculty on the survey highlighting the desire for new equipment. It was suggested that we invite a representative from our health plan, Tufts, to our next meeting to discuss wellness initiatives.

Actions: 1. Nancy to draft benefit survey results summary for faculty and staff to be sent as soon as possible
2. Nancy to invite Janice Perez from Tufts to attend our next BAC meeting to discuss wellness programs/initiatives.
