All faculty members have access to their own home directories on the home server. This home directory can be used to save and back up important files. It is important to note that this server can only be accessed from on campus.
You will also see a folder named "public_html" where you can publish web pages using the built-in FTP function of some website creation software. If you use a product such as iWeb on a Mac, you may have to use a separate secure copy program such as Fugu, which is installed on your Hampshire computer.
The public_html folder can also be used as a repository for information you want to share with anyone who has access to a browser. The link for others to navigate to your public_html folder is http://home.hampshire.edu/~, follwed by your HampNet ID and another slash(/); my public_html folder is at http://home.hampshire.edu/~kmmlo/, for instance. Remember that anything in your public_html folder is available to anyone, on or off campus, so never use it to hold confidential information.
