On May 26, 2016 we are replacing Newmisserver with a new server called Patterson. (Yeah, we could have called it "Newnewmisserver," but we didn't. You're welcome.) In the immediate aftermath accessing "newmisserver" will automatically reroute to Patterson, but you will need to update in order for it to work permanently. We have prepared instructions for Windows and Mac.
All staff members have access to their own home directories on the home server. This home directory can be used to save and back up important personal files. You also have a folder called public_html on home, which can be accessed by anyone from a web browser. The link for your public_html folder is http://home.hampshire.edu/~, follwed by your HampNet ID and another slash(/); my public_html folder is at http://home.hampshire.edu/~kmmlo/, for instance. Remember that anyone, on or off campus, can access items in your public_html folder, so it must not be used for confidential information.
Additionally, many staff also have access to departmental folders on patterson. It is a good practice to save important departmental documents on patterson. Patterson is used to allow other office members to share files easily. You will probably be assigned permission to access a space for your department. There is also a public folder in which you can share documents with members of other departments. Be careful in using the public folder; no confidential information should be placed in that space.
It is important to note that these servers can only be accessed on campus.
To create a desktop icon that you simply double click to access your staffhome home directory or your patterson departmental directory, use the OSX Finder to connect:
To map the drive so it will be available in Windows Explorer and Office applications as a Save As location:
Another option for quickly and easily accessing the network drive, but only when you need it, is to create a desktop shortcut:
