The Harold F. Johnson Library offers a variety of media access to all members of the Hampshire community.
The media services office provides support for all students creating and reusing media to express ideas in their work. The media services staff oversees all loans of media production equipment, coordinates the booking of all films and videos in the Five College collections, is a film/video reference help desk, and facilitates AV support for large-scale lectures, screenings, and live events.
The media services office is located on the main floor of the library across from the circulation desk. We're open 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. Media staff is available during these hours.
Advanced Media (also known as the media basement) provides students with the skills, hardware, and software to make, develop, and present media. Located in the basement of the library, these labs provide sophisticated post-production environments for all students. The advanced media staff provides training and skill development in the production of media.
Throughout the semester, workshops are offered in video editing; sound design; DVD authoring; digital photography and cinematography; graphic design; and presentation design. Students, staff, and faculty are welcome to attend any and all workshops.
The media basement is open from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m., Monday through Thursday. The basement and closes at 5 p.m. on Friday. Late in the semester the basement is open on weekends. The advanced media staff office is open from 11a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday through Friday.
