Course reserves are Hampshire and Five College-owned or instructor-provided material that support teaching and learning at Hampshire College. Bookings are date specific in-class screenings of Hampshire and Five College media.
Spring 2021 Reserves
Like in the fall, we will not be maintaining physical reserves this semester. Instead, we will do everything possible to meet your needs digitally. We will try to purchase e-books of requested titles if possible, if an e-book is not already owned. Please reach out to your school librarian about purchasing e-books not already in our collection.
If no e-book is available, we will be able to make scans for e-reserve. Due to the limitations of copyright and staff time, we will only be able to scan individual chapters of books as needed, not whole books. Please provide a time frame in which individual scans are needed so that we can be sure they are completed in time. These can be submitted through the e-reserve scanning request form.
Fill out the online form for all course materials you would like to place on reserve. Up to 25 items may be placed on reserve for each course. Please do not submit a hold request through the Five College Library catalog, as we will request the items for you.
Print items can be placed on reserve for the entire semester. Indicate whether you would like your items on 4-hour or open reserve on the reserves request form. Items on 4-hour reserve can be checked out for four hours at a time and may leave the library. Items on open reserve may be browsed for any length of time but cannot be checked out or leave the library.
Media items can be placed on 4-hour reserve for two weeks. Indicate your two-week period for each media item on the reserves request form.
Hampshire provides electronic reserves only as a component of Moodle, the course website system. You can link to e-books that are in the library catalog from your course website.
Instructors may place personal copies on reserve for the semester. Drop off any personal copies at the InfoBar and fill out the Library Reserves Form.
A library bar code and reserve tape will be affixed to each. We will take reasonable precautions to protect and secure these items while on the reserve shelf, but they may become damaged during use. The library cannot be held liable for damage due to normal wear and tear or for items that are missing. Items will be returned via campus mail at the end of the semester.
If an item that you wish to place on reserve is not owned by any of the Five Colleges, please contact your school librarian as soon as possible. Do not include these items on the Library Reserves Form or the online request form.
Patrons can view reserve items in the Five College online catalog under the “Reserves” tab. They are searchable by instructor’s last name, course number, course name, department, and item information.
Current students, staff, and faculty may check out up to three reserve items at a time. Please come prepared with the item's call number. Items on reserve circulate for four hours. There is a $5 per day overdue fine. Items not in high demand may be renewed up to one time.
Hampshire and Five College-owned media items can be requested for in-class screenings. Be sure to include the exact date you wish to screen the media. Please do not submit a hold request through the Five College Library catalog as we will request the items for you.
Hampflix is a password-protected streaming video service for Hampshire College courses. All requests must be submitted via online form. Only titles from Hampshire's circulating media collections can be placed on Hampflix. Five College and personal titles cannot be posted for streaming. All Hampflix items are placed on four hour reserve in the library for that course for the semester.
