Update on Bon Appétit

Dear Hampshire Community,

As shared last Friday, as we explore long-term options, we need to operate as a smaller college. As we're expecting to enroll 550 - 650 students next fall, the College will continue to provide dining options three meals a day on weekdays and two meals a day on weekends, but will shift dining services to the Bridge Café, Kern Café, and the HampStore, and expand the capacity of these locations.

For this reason Hampshire is not able to continue its relationship with dining services contractor Bon Appétit Management Company after August. We are deeply appreciative of the work of Bon Appétit employees in service to Hampshire. Some food service staff members have worked as employees of our dining contractors for decades and have been essential members of our community, advancing the quality of student life and campus life.

Bon Appétit Management Company administers its employment contract with its employees, so Hampshire would not be included in their company's discussions with its employees about transitioning them within their company.

To staff dining services next year, Hampshire will seek to employ more food service workers directly as Hampshire employees, including likely expanding our student workforce.

We are committed to treating every member of our community with respect through this transition.

Sincerely,

Mary McEneany,
VP Finance and Administration and Treasurer
