Letter to Campus: Hampshire College to Admit a Spring 2020 Class

Dear Hampshire College Community,

We are excited to announce that Hampshire will move to admit a spring 2020 class of new and transfer students in January. With this move, Hampshire is returning to business as usual in admissions, inviting students to apply to enroll in either fall or spring 2020.

The College’s leadership team has been coordinating closely with the Board of Trustees through the summer on restoring full admissions, and the Board on Friday took an affirmative vote “to admit a class for spring 2020, moving forward immediately with the steps necessary to do so successfully.” The Board is dedicated to preserving an independent Hampshire College, and this vote reflects that commitment.

Today, applicants to Hampshire can use the Common App to apply for either spring or fall admission, and prospective students can also join our mailing list and schedule a campus visit.

Our spring admissions deadlines are November 15 for domestic first-year and transfer students and November 1 for international first-year and transfer students. The deadlines to apply for fall are January 15 for early action and February 1 for regular decision.

We’re projecting student enrollment will likely remain 700-800 for the next three years, a sustainable size compared with many small colleges nationwide. In four years, our goal is to have four full classes again and enrollment of over 1,000.

If you know students who may thrive at Hampshire, please consider sharing this announcement with them or referring them to our Admissions Office using our Student Referral Form. With the support of many in our community, we’re continuing the momentum that began in the spring, and launching a new era for Hampshire.
