Nov. 22: Screening of 'Our Nixon'

Hampshire College will host a screening of Penny Lane and Brian L. Frye's film Our Nixon at Hampshire College on Friday, November 22, at 1 p.m. in the Brand Screening Room of the Jerome Liebling Center. The duo will be on campus to discuss the film on Monday, November 25, at 3 p.m. in the same location as part of the Tashmoo Lecture Series.

Lane and Frye are former Hampshire film and media studies professors and the film's origins trace back to the College, where Frye learned from a colleague of the government's archive of Nixon footage.

Throughout Richard Nixon's presidency, three of his top White House aides obsessively documented their experiences with Super 8 home movie cameras. Young, idealistic, and dedicated, they had no idea that a few years later they would all be in prison.

This unique and personal visual record, created by H.R. Haldeman, John Ehrlichman, and Dwight Chapin, was seized by the FBI during the Watergate investigation, then filed away and forgotten for almost 40 years. Our Nixon is an all-archival documentary presenting those home movies for the first time, along with other rare footage, creating an intimate and complex portrait of the Nixon presidency as never seen before.

Lane and Frye will also present the film at Amherst Cinema on Monday, November 25. The pair will be present at the screening, and there will be a question-and-answer session with documentary filmmaker and Hampshire alum Brendan Toller 04F.
