Hampshire Alum Daniel José Older to Join Disney’s Rick Riordan Imprint With Two New Young Adult Novels

Best-selling author and Hampshire College alum Daniel José Older 99F will pen the upcoming two-book Outlaw Saints series as part of Disney Publishing Worldwide imprint Rick Riordan Presents. The new imprint is “dedicated to publishing novels that are retellings of myths from around the world,” and Older’s series is the first Young Adult series for the imprint.

Older’s first novel in the Outlaw Saints series, titled Ballad & Dagger, will be published in May 2022. The second book will be released in May 2023.

Older is currently the lead story architect for Star Wars: The High Republic. He is the author of Flood City, the comic series The High Republic Adventures, Dactyl Hill Squad, The Book of Lost Saints, the Bone Street Rumba series, Star Wars: Last Shot, and the Young Adult series the Shadowshaper Cypher. He is also co-writer of the upcoming graphic novel Death’s Day.

Older’s Shadowshaper was named one of the best fantasy books of all time by TIME magazine and one of Esquire’s “80 Books Every Person Should Read.” Older won the International Latino Book Award for Best YA novel in 2016 and has been nominated for the Kirkus Prize, The World Fantasy Award, the Andre Norton Award, the Locus, and the Mythopoeic Award.

Previous to becoming a best-selling author, Older spent ten years working as a New York City paramedic.
