Josiah Mardell

Toddler Co-Teacher

Toddler Co-Teacher 2020-present

B.A., University of Massachusetts (English), 2017

Although he feels like he’s been in the field of education his whole life, (largely due to the fact that it is the field of both his parents, both his grandmother’s, and several aunts, uncles, and cousins) he formally started his career at Federal Hill House in Providence as an AmeriCorps member for Ready to Learn Providence.  Josiah first came to the ELC as a summer substitute in the summer of 2015.  For the rest of his time at UMass (and during summers) he considered himself an honorary Hampshire work study student and subbed in all of the classrooms at the ELC as often as possible.  After Graduating UMass he worked as a Toddler Teacher at the Williams College Children’s Center.   And now he is happy to be back in the Valley and back at the ELC.

As an educator Josiah believes in learning through play, in listening to children, and watching them with soft eyes.  He believes it is a child’s right to struggle, to wonder, and to succeed with joy.

In his free time Josiah loves being outdoors, pretty much all things related to sports (especially soccer), and reading.
