Concern, Assessment, Response, Evaluation (CARE) Team

What is CARE?

The Concern, Assessment, Response, and Evaluation (CARE) team is a student-focused resource. It is comprised of staff from the Dean of Students Office, Residence Life and Student Engagement, the Center for Academic Support and Advising, C.A.P.E.S., Health and Counseling Services, and the Office of Accessibility Resources and Services whose goal is to support all students through challenges they may experience during their time at Hampshire. Many supports are available, and the CARE team coordinates response and outreach to empower each student to navigate resources and assist in a plan for their success.

Concerned about a student?

If you have a concern about a student, please email earlyalert@hampshire.edu. After receiving an email, a staff member will respond and address the concern in a timely manner. We are here to respond to a variety of student concerns, which include, but are not limited to:

  • Academic Concerns: Concerns related to a student’s studies
  • General Concerns: General concerns about the behavior and/or welfare of a student
  • Family Stress: Issues that occur with family at home such as illness or loss of a loved one
  • Missing Students: Students who have been missing for a period of time
  • Distressed Behavior: The most common, distressed behavior causes us to feel alarmed, upset, or worried
  • Disruptive Behavior: Behavior that interferes or disrupts the educational environment of other students or the normal academic functions of the College
  • Dangerous Behavior: Behavior that causes one to feel frightened and/or in fear of one's personal safety or the safety of others

The earlyalert@hampshire.edu email is not a system to use for emergencies. If you need to report an emergency or hazardous situation, please call Campus Safety and Wellbeing at 413.559.5424.

If you would like to submit an incident report, complaint, or anonymous report, please review the Report an Incident or Concern webpage. Please note that the College cannot follow up with you directly or provide any update if submitting an anonymous report nor if a violation of the Family Education Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA). Emailing earlyalert@hampshire.ed or submitting an anonymous report assures the concern will be reviewed by the College.

If you have questions or need more information, please email the CARE team chair and Senior Director of Student Affairs Dr. Shawn McQuillan-Krepps
