Interlibrary Loan

This account can request both physical items and digital copies. If you are living away from the area but still within the United States, we can mail physical items to you.

If you need physical books from the Five Colleges and can pick them up at Hampshire, UMass, Smith, Amherst, or Mount Holyoke this summer, it’s best to request through the Five College Catalog. However, if you are not remaining in the area this summer and need items mailed to you, you can use this request form even for Five College books.

Here’s how it works:

• Send an email to ill@library.umass.edu with the following information:
  • Your name
  • Your Hampshire email address
  • Whether you would like to pick up physical materials from the UMass (or Hampshire?) campus or have them mailed to your address
  • If you need materials mailed to you, the address where you would like them sent  
• When you find a book, chapter, article, dvd, etc. that you need:
  • Log in to https://illiad.library.umass.edu/illiad/AMHProxy using your Hampshire email address and the password you set
  • Choose “New Request”
    • If you’re requesting an entire item, choose "Book, Film, etc."
    • If you’re requesting a digital copy choose “Article/Book Chapter”
  • Fill out the form with as much information as you can. Including things like ISSNs or ISBNs really help us fill your request more quickly 
• Interlibrary Loan will fill your request as soon as we can. We can usually supply articles from current journals within a day or two, while physical items usually take at least a week to reach us in the mail. Rare items or citations with missing information can take longer. 
• You will get an email from ill@library.umass.edu (please save this to your trusted senders!) to your Hampshire address when the item is ready, or if we have any questions.
