Student Health Insurance

Massachusetts law requires all students to have medical insurance. To comply with state regulations, all students are automatically enrolled in and billed for the student health insurance plan through Gallagher Student Health and Special Risk. If you are currently enrolled in a comparable plan and can provide your policy information, you may elect to waive the College's plan according to the process below and your student account will be credited.

Visit the Health Services Student Health Insurance page to understand choices regarding health insurance coverage.

Online Waiver Process

The 2019-2020 Waiver and Enrollment forms will be available July 1, 2019, through August 11, 2019.

If  a waiver form is not submitted by the August 11 deadline, you will remain enrolled in and billed for the student health insurance plan for the entire policy year whether you use the insurance or not.

To waive the student health insurance plan for the 2019-2020 policy year:

  1. Go to https://www.gallagherstudent.com/hampshire.

These charges could be called "out of network care," "co-insurance," or "deductibles."

Hampshire College covers the cost of all on-campus counseling visits.  Please visit Frequently Asked Questions: Health and Counseling Services for more information.

Health Insurance for Students on Leaves of Absence

A student who has taken a leave of absence will not be automatically enrolled in or billed for the student health insurance plan. If, however, a student on leave wishes to enroll in the student health insurance plan, the student must e-mail Student Accounts to request coverage. To be eligible for coverage, the student must have been enrolled in the student health insurance plan the prior semester. The student must send the request for coverage before the beginning of EACH semester the student has been approved for a leave of absence. Withdrawn students are not eligible for student health insurance coverage.
