Student Health Insurance

To comply with Massachusetts state regulations, all students are automatically charged for and enrolled in the annual student health insurance plan through Gallagher Student Health.

Visit the Health Services Student Health Insurance page to understand choices regarding health insurance coverage. Please note: Fees charged for the student health insurance plan are separate from the health services fee, which pays for using the College's on-campus health and counseling services.

Additional Information Regarding Co-Payments and Deductibles

All currently enrolled Hampshire College students can access medical and mental health office visits at the Hampshire College Health Services with no office visit charges, regardless of insurance coverage. Lab tests are sent to and billed from the University of Massachusetts Health Services laboratory. Students are responsible for any non-covered charges for lab tests.

The Student Health Insurance Plan (SHIP) offered by the College is designed to minimize any out of pocket expenses for students and covers all lab tests, x-rays, and office visits on campus and at the University of Massachusetts Health Services on evenings and weekends. Students who waive the SHIP, may incur additional charges for deductibles, co-payments, and co-insurances. These medical charges will be added to the student’s account at Hampshire and must be paid in full within 30 days of the billing date.

Health Insurance for Students on Leaves of Absence

A student who has taken a leave of absence will not be automatically enrolled in or billed for the student health insurance plan. If, however, a student on leave wishes to enroll in the student health insurance plan, the student must email Gloria Reyes in Student Accounts to request coverage. To be eligible for coverage, the student must have been enrolled in the student health insurance plan the prior semester. The student must send the request for coverage before the beginning of EACH semester the student has been approved for a leave of absence. Withdrawn students are not eligible for student health insurance coverage.
