Weather and Emergency Closings and Delays

Dining services will continue to be open for meals during closed days.

Snow Closings and Delays

If a snowstorm happens before classes begin or offices open, the President, in close coordination with the director of facilities and grounds, will decide about closing or delaying the opening of the College. This decision is based on weather forecasts and the conditions of parking lots, paths, and roads on campus. If a decision is made to close or delay opening, this decision will be made, when feasible, by 6:30 a.m., and a message to that effect will be placed on the Hampshire College hotline at 413.559.5508; an important announcement will be posted on the Hampshire College Intranet, which will be emailed to all students, faculty, and staff; and a message will be posted on the Hampshire College website.

If a snowstorm happens during the day, the director of facilities and grounds will consult with the dean of faculty's, President's, student affairs', and finance and administration offices about the impact of the early closing on the academic program. If a decision is made to close early, the human resources office will communicate this to divisions and schools; a message will be placed on the hotline at 413.559.5508; an important announcement will be posted on the Hampshire College Intranet, which will be emailed to all students, faculty, and staff; and a message will be posted on the Hampshire College website.

Severe Weather and Emergency Closings and Delays

In the event of severe weather or emergencies, in addition to the communication methods mentioned above, it is likely that campus police will send a message through the Emergency Mass Notification System. The Emergency Mass Notification System (EMNS) is used to deliver emergency alert messages to the Hampshire College community, using multiple communication methods, including text messages, emails, and voice messages. In order to receive notifications through this system, students, faculty, and staff must update their emergency notification contact information on TheHub.

Please Note

Due to safety issues, when there is a delayed opening, the College respectfully requests that only employees designated as "essential personnel" come to campus until the College is open.

Likewise, due to safety concerns for members of the community, when the College closes early, all staff with the exception of essential personnel, are expected to leave in accordance with the closing time. When the College is closed due to weather or other emergency, all staff, other than essential personnel, are asked to refrain from coming to campus, for their own safety and to not impede the work of facilities and grounds.
