References Information

Thank you for your interest in the resident advisor and orientation staff positions. Applicants for all positions must give email contact information for four references as part of the application process, including two professional references, one peer reference, and one advisor reference. Descriptions of each type of reference appear below. Your references will receive an email with a link to the appropriate reference form once you have submitted your application. References for the Resident Advisor and Community Facilitator positions are due on Wednesday, March 25 by 8:30 a.m. References for the orientation leader and orientation coordinator positions are due on Wednesday, March 26 by 4:30 p.m.. We will continue to accept references after this date, but they may not be reviewed.

Professional references

Professional references are furnished by individuals who have supervised and/or worked with applicants in a professional capacity. This may include faculty members and academic advisors. This should not be a personal reference (a.k.a: family member or friend). 

Peer references

Peer references are provided by Hampshire College students who have worked with applicants on campus or can offer perspective on their skills. Applicants for the resident advisor position are strongly encouraged to have the form completed by a current or former resident advisor.

Advisor references

Advisor forms are very brief, and are to be completed by the applicant's academic advisor only. Advisors may act as a professional reference as well if asked to do so by the applicant.
